Published on: September 10, 2018

We are halfway through the First Annual National Palm Done Right Month and are thrilled to see Palm Done Right popping up in the news! From INFRA’s industry publication The Real Deal to PCC Community Market’s newsletter that reaches engaged consumers, the movement towards sustainable palm oil is in full force. Read more below!

Ecuadorian Organic Palm Farmer Walter Loyoga

“When you grow organically, the land thanks you and takes care of itself.”

When you meet Walter, who grows palm fruit for Natural Habitats on his farm in the Quininde region of Ecuador, you can’t help but be struck by how he beams. He’ll tell you that he grows “organic del corazon” — organic from the heart. Walter uses green manure—strategic cover crops that nurture the soil and attract beneficial insects—natural pest management (like traps with a mixture of molasses and water to attract a harmful beetle) and intercropping for productive, healthy trees and a thriving ecosystem.

Why You Should Get Involved
with Palm Done Right

Palm can be grown for good, bringing benefits to:

  • Our planet, due to palm oil’s land efficiency.
  • Local communities, due to the economic development oil palm production creates.
  • Our market, due to palm oil’s versatility and functionality as an ingredient, lifting product quality and performance.

Together, we can influence change for:

  • Manufacturers that are still using conflict palm oil for their products.
  • Retailers that are still listing products that contain conflict palm oil.
  • Brokers and distributors that are still supplying their customers with products that contain conflict palm oil.
  • Shoppers that have the power to vote with their dollar.
