Red palm oil hummus

This recipe was originally featured on a beauty and wellness blog that highlighted some of the amazing health benefits of sustainably sourced palm oil. Palm oil is full of vitamins and antioxidants and can help balance the body’s good and bad cholesterol. These health gains are just another wonderful part of palm oil’s advantages. Apart from the health aspects, in cooking, it offers incredible, smooth texture and a subtle yet rich flavor to whatever it’s added in. Red palm oil is perfect to feature in hummus, only enhancing the taste and the smoothness of the dip. Check out the simple and quick recipe below.

  • 1 can of chickpeas
  • 2 tablespoons of red palm oil
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 clove of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon of paprika
  • ¼ cup of tahini
  • juice of 1 lemon (about ¼ cup)
  • sea salt to taste
  • ¼ cup of water

  1. Drain liquid from the can of chickpeas. Bring enough water to a boil in a pot to cover chickpeas, then pour chickpeas in, and boil for five to seven minutes.
  2. Remove the pot from heat, and drain water. Pour the boiled chickpeas into a blender or food processor, and add the minced garlic, olive oil, and ¼ cup of water or less. Blend for a few minutes. If your mixture still has solid bits of chickpeas or seems too thick, add more water about a tablespoon at a time.
  3. Add the red palm oil, lemon juice, and tahini. Again, blend for a few minutes until the mixture is smooth. If your mixture seems thick, add some water or a bit more palm oil or olive oil.
  4. Once the texture is to your liking, transfer to a bowl.
  5. Sprinkle the paprika on top of the hummus, then cover the top with a thin layer of olive oil. You can also add a bit more red palm oil for a flavorful mixture of the two oils.
  6. Serve with crackers, pita, celery, carrots, or any other foods of your choosing. You can also use it as a delicious spread on sandwiches.
  7. Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to one week.

Red palm oil and hummus are a match made in heaven. With a robust, savory flavor, it’s a crowd pleaser that even the pickiest eaters can enjoy. You can also tweak the recipe with your favorite flavors by adding roasted red peppers, sun dried tomatoes, garlic, olives, or countless other inclusions. This easy-to-make hummus is the perfect dish to bring to a party, and it’s sure to go quick!
