The Hanover Co-op Food Stores was founded in 1936 as the Hanover Consumer Cooperative Society, Inc. What started as a buying club with 17 families has grown to more than 23,000 member-owners. We are the second-largest food co-op in the United States, composed of three full-service grocery stores, a community market, production kitchen, and two auto service centers. We are a business with long-held policies supporting fair and equitable partnerships with local and global farmers and food producers.
Our vision is one of a well-nourished community cultivated through cooperation. The Hanover Co-op is a triple-bottom-line company. This means that we measure our success in financial, social, and environmental terms. Ours is a business that seeks to lessen its environmental impact and to conserve natural resources through daily operations.Because sustainability and education are important to us, we actively engage our members and customers on food and environmental issues through classes, hands-on events, and passive learning spaces.
We also offer sustainable product options on our shelves. It is all part of our work to support a resilient food system while offering reliable access to healthy food.
