Giving Consumers Choices To #UniteForPalmDoneRight

Boulder, Colo. August 18, 2020 — This September marks the third annual Palm Done Right Month when consumers and the industry come together and take a stand for sustainable choices. Palm Done Right (PDR), a mission-based educational platform continues to educate the public about the many benefits of palm oil. PDR believes it’s critical to support companies and brands that use palm oil that is designated 100% organic, deforestation-free, wildlife-friendly, fair, and social.

Palm oil – the world’s most consumed vegetable oil – is found in over half of household goods from foods to personal care products. When it is produced the wrong way, it can have a devastating impact on wildlife, forests, and communities. Palm done right, on the other hand, nurtures the soil, protects forests and wildlife habitats provide fair wages, and foster strong communities.

Palm Done Right continues to scale its efforts and now has a network of over 100 Palm Done Right partners who support and share the PDR mission. This increase in the partner network enables them to have a greater impact on farmers, workers, communities, and the environment. By converting an additional 33% of hectares from conventional oil palm growing to organic and sustainable palm cultivation, in 2020 alone, PDR is scaling its reach and impacting efforts like:

  • Expanding training and support for oil palm growers so they can convert to full organic management of their farms
  • Eradicating chemical use and preventing soil and water contamination
  • Protecting forests and wildlife
  • Ensuring fair trade and sustainable practices
  • Paying farmers a premium for their harvests
  • Ensuring that workers’ rights are protected

“This is how we #UniteForPalmDoneRight and support September’s Palm Done Right Month,” says Monique van Wijnbergen, Sustainability and Corporate Communications Director for Natural Habitats. “We are giving consumers a path to create a positive impact by making the right product choices. When shoppers find the Palm Done Right logo on a brand package, they can trust that the palm oil in that product came from an organic, fair trade, and sustainable source. Palm Done Right unites shoppers, retailers, brands, manufacturers, farmers, communities, and nature. Let’s #UniteForPalmDoneRight and come together for people and our planet.”

As the Palm Done Right movement continues to gain momentum, shoppers are beginning to understand that joining the movement and choosing a committed brand and retail partners allows them to exercise their influence by making conscious choices in the products they buy and consume.

Palm Done Right is thrilled to share the following new food partners, Mary’s Gone Crackers and YumButter, and two new personal care brands, Way Out Wax and Heavenly Street, all committed to organic and sustainable choices for people and the planet.

Mary’s Gone Crackers’ pledge to zero deforestation dates back to 2005. Each product is organic, plant-based, and sustainably sourced. The Palm Done Right palm oil baked into our REAL Thin Crackers produces a delightfully toasty, crisp, plant-based product and is allergen friendly. We are committed to making products that are healthy for people and the planet,” says Carla King, Senior Marketing Manager.

Anna Barrett, Owner of Way Out Wax explains, “PDR is the answer to our candle-making prayers. For years, we’ve been on a mission to make the cleanest burning candles on the market and we are always pushing the envelope to create the most natural, most sustainable products. Having a partner like PDR allows us to confidently build a new model for truly sustainable candles – with 100% ingredient transparency and proof that if everyone cares along the way, you can deliver something you can really feel good about.”
